28 Jun The Venice Architecture Biennale is back
The Venice Architecture Biennale 2021 opened on May 22 with the slogan ‘how will we live together?
With 112 participants from 46 countries, 63 national participations and 4 new additions: Grenada, Iraq, Uzbekistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Spanish participation in the Venice Biennale, which was suspended in 2020 due to the pandemic, could not be more aligned with the annual theme.
Under the title Uncertainty (Uncertainty), the Spanish pavilion shows architecture projects of social impact from different disciplines.
All of them value the creative process over the finished iconic piece, processes executed in a multidisciplinary way and with a clear positive social impact.
In many cases these are projects that are not recognized at first glance as architecture, emphasizing the notion that the discipline has transcended its historical role of building, adapting and mixing with other disciplines such as music, education, agriculture, dance, videogames…
In addition, the Golden Lion for Career has been awarded to the Spanish architect, educator, critic and theorist Rafael Moneo, one of the most transformative of his generation. This architect was also the first Spanish to receive the Pritzker Prize.
The Biennale di Architettura di Venezia will be open until November 21, 2021.
